Nanakusa (The Seven Spring Herbs)
(Jan.7, Sumida-ku,Tokyo)

Haru-no-Nanakusa means the seven kinds of herbs in Spring such as Seri(a Japanese parsley), Nazuna(a shepherd's purse), Gogyou, Hakobera(chickweed),Hotoke-no-za, Suzuna, Suzushiro. We enjoy watching the Seven Autumn flowers but we eat "Haru no Nanakusa". We have a custom to eat "Nanakusa-gayu",a rice porridge(cooked the rice tender with a lot of water) with the cutting seven spring herbs on Jan.7 in Japan.
