Shichifukujin : The Seven Gods of Good Luck
(Sumida ward, Tokyo on Jan. 7)

Shichifukujin are the seven gods of good luck Jurojin, Fukurokuju, Hoteison, Benzaiten, Bishamonten, Daikokuten and Ebisu. In Japan it's been customary to visit shrines or temples dedicated to each one of the seven gods of good luck between Jan. 1 and 7 since the early 19th century. There are all the seven gods of good luck in the garden of an old house which now belongs to Sumida ward, Tokyo. The photograph shows Jurojin, the god of longevity whose name is first on the list of Shichifukujin. He is originally a Chinese god.
