Hisoka Maejima, The Father Of The Mail Service
(Jan.7, Joetsu-shi, Niigata-ken)


The mail service started among Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka on April 20 in 1871. Hisoka Maejima(1835`1919), in the picture, established the foundation of the mail service refer to the system of England. Mr.Maejima contributed to encourage not only the mail but also industries of Newspaper, Railroad, Land Transportation and Marine Transportation. A memorial hall was built at his birth place in Joetsu-shi, Niigata-ken. It is introducing his achievements and his articles are displayed there.
