"Meireki-No-Taika", The Fire Resulted The Death Of 100,000 people

A fire broke out around noon from the Honmyoji(temple) at the present Hongo,Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo on Jan.18th, in 1657. This big fire called "Meireki-no-Taika" burst into flames violently,hit by a strong wind and brought about nearly 108,000 people to death. This was the worst one in the past 90 times of fire in Edo period (from the early 17th century to the middle of 19th century) and 27 square meters were burned. The picture is the neighborhood of the Honmyoji and this area is a residential street now.
