Containers & Wrappings Garbage Issue 2
(Koto wad, Tokyo on Feb. 17)
The photograph shows a carton for soap which is standard gift. It is not necessary to wrap each cake of soap because there are compartments in it. A law actually will go into effect this April in Japan. It compels manufacturers who use containers and wrappings or produce and sell them to pay recycling expenses. It is estimated the total amount of money they'll have to pay is going to be up to approximately 28 billion yen a year. In the background of the law is a fact that containers and wrappings occupy about 60 percent of the garbage volume from home and 20-30 percent of its weight.
