A yamabushi has just finished walking barefoot on the ashes that are still smouldering here and there. They cool their feet by stamping salt before and after firewalking. It is incredible that there was nobody saying it's hot or he's got burned. The reason for feeling no heat varies from view to view, for example there's a lot of perspiration from the soles due to a sense of strain and the actual heat.
