Floral Picture of Miffy
(Edogawa Ward, Tokyo on Apr. 13)

The photograph shows a 28 meters square of flower garden made in the Kasai-rinkai Park of Edogawa Ward, Tokyo. In the garden Miffy, a popular character created by Dick Bruna, Dutch picture book writer, is designed with flowers like tulips, hyacinths and grape-hyacinths. This floral picture is to celebrate this year for the 400th anniversary of a friendship between Japan & the Netherlands. About 230,000 bulbs used were donated by Holland. Totally about 1.103 million bulbs were presented to six cities including Tokyo and each city created each different design of flower bed of Miffy. One in Tokyo is Miffy holding the Rising Sun and the bulbs were planted by nearly 200 primary school children in Edogawa Ward last October.
