The Beginning Of The Producing Takenoko

This picture is a residential area in Shinagawa-ku, close to Meguro-ku. One rich merchant started growing Takenoko here in 1789. He moved here because he wanted to be a farmer. He made Takenoko a special product of Meguro in order to help the farmers, being in great difficulty to pay a land tax. The special cultivation techniques to spend time and effort cause the tasty Takenoko in Meguro.
