This picture is "Nebuta" displayed in Yokohama-machi, Aomori-ken. Nebuta is a float called Dashi to bring out for the famous festival holding every summer in Aomori-shi and Hirosaki-shi, Aomori-ken. Nebuta in the picture is three-dimensional model like a doll and used in the festival,Aomori-shi. Dashi used for the parade in Hirosaki-shi is more plane. They call Dashi in different way, "Neputa" in Hirosaki-shi, "Nebuta" in Aomori-shi. Both of them come from the figure of brave Samurai in ancient times. There are various views about the root of the festival. Someone says that the event held on the night of July 7 to purify has changed into Nebuta. There is the record holding the festival in 18 century, but it is not clear when it started.
