Scarecrow and popularity

This is a rice field in Shiki city which is located in the southern part of Saitama pre. (about 30kms north from the center of Tokyo.)
Japanese elementary school children experience grouwing rice, the Japanese staple food, in class.
The rice field on the photo is for elementary school's practice. (This is a real rice field. But around the heart of Tokyo, There are some cases of growing rice in the container like a bucket, because the school lots are small.)
In summer when young rice plants set in spring come into ear, scarecrows are placed to prevent birds like sparrows from eating rice and to protect them until the harvest in fall.
The scarecrows on the photos were made voluntarily by children and reflect clearly their popular world.
