The Great Kanto Earthquake damaged this ginkgo
(Aug.31 Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo nearby the Imperial Palace)

@The Great Kanto Earthquake occurred around noon on Sep.1 in 1923. It was magnitude7.9. More than 250,000 houses were completely or partially destroyed, over 440,000 houses were burned down, 868 houses were washed away by a tidal wave, the killed and wounded people were more than 200,000, over 40,000 people were missing. That was an unparalleled disaster in history.

(We had the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake before dawn on Jan.17 in 1995. It was magnitude 7.2, the dead people were more than 5,000 and over 40,000 people were injured, nearly 500,000 houses were damaged. The scale of damage of the Great Kanto Earthqake must have been unimageinable.)

@75years have passed since then. We could hardly find the evidences of the Great Kanto Earthquake, which have hear decreasing.
