Kiba-no Kakunori: Stunt Riding on Floating Lumber in Kiba
(Kiba-Park, Koto ward, Tokyo on Oct.4)

Please enjoy the actual sound with its traditional accompaniment.

@On the first Sunday of October each year, there is a competition of stunt riding on a floating lumber in Kiba Park. Kiba is located at the mouth of Sumida River which flows into Tokyo Bay and filled the role of lumberyard in Tokyo from the early 18c to 1970's.
(Since a lumberyard could cause a conflagration, the Tokugawa Shogunate gathered lumberyards up from each town.)
@Lumbers were rafted down the river. Riding on a floating lumber in Kiba was developed from rafting work by managing to ride on a floating square lumber. "kasai-bayashi" traditional folk music born in Edo- period was being played in quick tempo according to the Kakunori performance.
