They reported widely that the Nihonbashi Branch of Tokyu Department Store is the first case that a department store withdraw a branch store from the center of Tokyo, which was old-established store as a kimono shop in 1662.
Nevertheless Tokyu Department Store has branch stores in Shibuya, Yokohama and in the suburbs of Tokyo, they have to close the Nihonbashi branch.
This is the trend of the times.
As Nihonbashi was an important place of traffic and commerce in Edo
period(from the first of the 17th century to the mid-19th century), where there were a lot of old-established stores but Ginza located next or Shinjuku has become a more attractive place than Nihonbashi.
