Hina-Matsuri(Doll's Festival) at Meiji Shrine

Every year, on Mar.3, Hina-Matsuri is held to pray for girl's growing up in good health and their happiness.
On Feb.28, Sunday, Hina-Matsuri was held at Meiji Shrine, a little before a person does.

This picture is "Shinkan"(Shinto priest) and "Miko"(Shrine maiden) dressed as Hina-dolls.
Hina-Ningyo(dolls) are dolls dressed in Heian era costumes(the end of 8th century-the end of 12th century) representing the Emperor, Empress and court ladies.
On this day, families with young daughters display Hina-Ningyo and offer peach blossoms and sweets to dolls.
