Election of Tokyo Governor Comes soon
( Ginza, Tokyo )
Each party's campaign car is often seen probably because Tokyo gubernatorial election (vote on April 11) is now close at hand. The present governor, Aoshima announced on Feb.1 not to run for the election. Six major candidates appeared all together on March 10 after a lot of disputes. Most of them are celebrities including former cabinet members. Furthermore Tokyo has a lot of problems such as fiscal reform, so that people are much interested in this election. Tokyo is the capital of Japan with a population of about 12 million and a yearly budget of over 6 trillion yen. Direct election of the top leader naturally makes people much concerned with the election but actually the voter turnout of the last one was only 50.67%.
With more than 5 candidates this time, there is some possibility the first vote alone will fail to decide the winner. The election is going to need about 4.2 billion yen, but its reelection is likely to need another 4.2 billion and will make another absence of governor and the deputy governors. Anyway the result of the election is up to many people who are not voters supporting any particular parties.
