The Origin of Shogi

The original of Shogi was formed in India about 4000years ago. The form introduced to Japan by way of China was called "Shogi", and the form handed down to the West through Persia was formed "Chess". Shogi came into Japan around 8 century and transformed into the present style 400-500 years ago.
