Kite-flying Festival in Zama-shi
(May 6, Zama-shi, Kanagawa-ken)


On both May 4 and 5, next to Tokyo, in Zama-shi, Kanagawa-ken, there was the largest scale of event of flying a "Tako"(Kite) in Japan, Which is 13 meters square and weigh about 900kg. Early-19th-century, people around this area began to fly a big "Tako" on the "Tango no Sekku"(May 5, this is an event to pray for their sons' healthy growth and success in life). As people flew the bigger "Tako" year after year, they made and flew it in cooperation.
