Tokyo Port Fair

Tokyo Port opened as an international trading port on May 20, 1941. Tokyo Port Fair is annually held on May to publisize Tokyo Port. It was held on May 29 and 30 this year. The photo shows restored Kanrinmaru which joined in a sailboat parade on 30. kanrinmaru is a warship purchased from Holland by the Tokugawa shogunate, which is 51 meters long and about 380 tons. Kanrinmaru arrived at San Francisco in 1860 as an escort with a diplomatic mission of the shogunate on board after sailing 37 days. It was her first time sailing across the Pacific as a Japanese ship.
