Mikoshi to the Sea
(Shinagawa-ward, Tokyo on Jun.14)
A festival is held to pray for a good harvest and a big catch at Ebara Shrine in Shinagawa-ward, Tokyo in June every year. (Jun,11 to Jun.13 this year) It is a feature of the festival that on the final day, people get into the sea of Tokyo Bay carrying mikoshi with a mask on the top. It originated that a fishermam picked up an old mask washed up on the beach of Shinagawa-Kaigan and he dedicated it to the shrine.
