A Carving Ice Competition
(July 23, Taito-ku, Tokyo)
On July 23, from three o'clock in the afternoon, a competition of carving figures on a block of ice took place at the Ueno Park in Taito-ku, Tokyo, and 29 people including cooks competed their skill. On that day, weather report announced the end of the rainy season, a temperature rose over 34 degrees centigrade. This work in the picture won the prize as the choicest article. After the competition, these works were presented to the polar bears in the zoo located in the same park.
