"Mago-No-Hi" (Grandchildren's Day)
(Oct.15, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)

The third Sunday of October was established as the "Mago-no-Hi" being advocated by the Japan Department Stores Association since this year. On the first "Mago-No-Hi", Oct.17, each department had various events at the children's clothing floor, the toys section and at the restaurant. It was the "Mago-no-Hi" that the department industry, suffering from low consumption, managed to aim at more than 60 years old people to use their money, who possess roughly half of the individual financial property estimated 1200 trillion yen. In Japan, September 15 is a "Keiro-no-Hi"(Respect-for-the-Aged Day),national holiday and "Mago-no-hi" was established on the third of October, forming a counterpart to "Keiro-no-Hi". It is seemed that each department store doesn't give high priority to"Keiro-no-Hi" up to now including this year.
