japanese staple, rice is self-sufficient food. It is said that variety in the japanese eating habits and change in their lifestyle brought about drop in the consumption of rice and produced surplus. (The photo shows a variety of report-pouched rice which needs less cooking and time.) The government makes farmers control production. And Japan is even required to import rice by foreign countries.
