Preparation For The Shogatsu(The New Year)
(Dec.27, Chuo-ku,Tokyo)

This picture is the Tsukiji Market crowded with people to buy Osechi-ryori in Chuo-ku,Tokyo. Osechi-ryori is the festive food eaten at the New Year's and usually arranged artfully in a three-layer set of lacquer boxes. People serve each dishes with their wishes for the health, prosperity of posterity, a good harvest and wealth. Very few people cook all of "Osechi" by themselves recently. People who don't prepare for "Osechi" are increasing, too. Because most of stores are open during the New Year Holidays, travelling or these traditional food are not to their taste. But this year many people prepare "Osechi" in order to stay at home in order to prepare Y2k and it can keep for a long time.
